1. Propaganda in Schools.

149

It was arranged that systematic instruction in Germm atrocities and German methods of conducting the War should be given in all schools. A small book of stories mtitled "Tar Stories" was written by Mr. B. James, and published by the Committee. This book has proved most successful and has been most highly approved of by the Ministry of Information. The Minister having asked that 500 copies should be sent home for distribution by the Department to Chinese labourers in France.

The Propaganda Committee can safely assert that this mode of propaganda in schools has had excellent results and the Committee has little doubt that the Chamber of Commeras will wish some form of British propaganda continued in all schools in

this Colony.

Every boy of whatever race, who receives his education in this Colony, should be taught the debt which he owes to the flag under which he was educated. This can be done at trifling cost, possibly a prise offered here and there.

The Chamber of Commerce is asked to support this scheme and to show the Education Department that they sympathise with what is being done and are ready to help with advice and in any way possible.

2. Lecturers,

Lecturers were engaged and trained by Mr. S. V. Tao to lecture on German atrocities and brutality. These men in the opinion of the Committee have been most successful and have well justified the small cost involved. The Committee now has ten men in its regular employment, and they have an aggregate monthly audience of about 30,000 hearers. On an average some 76 journeys are made a month by lecturers travelling between Hongkong and the neighbouring ports of Canton, Macao, and Kong Moon.
